Ocean farmed salmon degrade the marine environment, threaten wild salmon stocks with amplification of sea lice and killer pathogens, and produce farmed Atlantic salmon that are so highly contaminated, health experts advise people, especially pregnant women and children, to avoid.  Every precautionary measure needs to be taken to protect wild salmon from industrial harm.  0pen-net pen fish farms need to be removed from the ocean as one of the essential precautionary measures to prevent wild salmon from going extinct.  With the rise of land-based aquaculture, there is a sustainable alternative.  We urge everyone buy wild salmon as the primary, healthy choice, and fish grown in containment on land as a more sustainable second choice.  By doing this, you will help make ocean fish farms obsolete, thereby contributing towards resurgence of wild salmon stocks that support biodiversity, and a vibrant wild salmon economy that includes Aboriginal fisheries, commercial fisheries, sports fisheries and ecotourism.  Write to the Honourable Hunter Tootoo, Minister of Oceans, Fisheries and Coast Guard to urge him to phasing out ocean fish farms by the end of 2016!
