In a big win for wild salmon, clean waters and healthy ecosystems, the Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands, Hilary Franz, announced that she will not renew Cooke Aquaculture’s net pen salmon farm leases in Puget Sound. Which means the remaining open-water net-pen facilities will be gone by the end of the year. Huge congratulations to our partners at Wild Fish Conservancy for leading the charge to make the Salish Sea a healthier, cleaner place for all.
The international net pen industry is relentless, but the win in Washington State can set precedence and create a model of success as net pens fish farms still rage around the world. To learn more about the recent announcement in Washington, here's the full update.
