Letter sent to Ashton ward councillor's Nigel Ash & Bill Clarke and Makerfield MP Yvonne Fovargue copied in :- "Dear Councillor's Nigel Ash & Bill Clarke, The Fleece Public House - Licence Extension Wigan Council have confirmed in writing that despite you being notified of the licence extension application from the above premises until 5.00 am you made no objections ? As ward Councillors you had this privilege. Associates of the above premises have said they have the support of the Labour MP Yvonne Fovargue for the premises to be used as a nightclub ? Is this correct ? As ward Councillors you also did not take the courtesy to inform local residents of the proposals despite clear detrimental impacts for local communities/residents by the awarding of such licences to licenced premises in residential communities. Why is this ? Did this application not ring any alarm bells considering the fact that you are suppose to be representing residents and promoting better communities ? Are/were Wigan Council complicit in the awarding of this licence knowing full well of their intentions ? I find it unbelievable that a 5.00 am licence is applied for and no-one from licencing, planning, police, Safer Environment or Councillors asked why a function room of a pub wants to serve alcohol until 5.00 am ? It was my intervention only that has resulted in the planning department becoming involved by informing all concerned that A4 use - drinking establishments excludes nightclubs. Best wishes Michael Moulding" On the petition a resident has signed and she has made the following comment :- "There is too much noise from drunks and the like already in Ashton and the fleece is way too near to residential properties...it should NEVER happen. A very concerned resident of Ashton ."
