Clean it up, open it up and let it be used and enjoyed. It was once used as a learning centre and museum and a wonderful place to visit for people from not only Wigan but all over the world.

The Issue
Wigan Pier is famous throughout the world, but it's in a TERRIBLE STATE right now and no-one seems to care. This seems to be typical of Wigan Council to allow a beautiful building to rot until it becomes a Health and Safety hazard and has to be demolished. I for (just) one would love to see the Pier back to the wonderful place it was in the 80’s and 90’s where school children took trips and families took days out in the sunshine. The Pier has so much history that is important to the people of Wigan. First in digging the canal and Pier many Saxon age arms and weapons were found. Second the importance the area and Pier played in the industrial age, Wigan was at the heart of the coal and cotton industry which paid wages for near on the whole of the town. Third George Orwell (who is read all over the world), yes he may have slated our town/county in writing his book (The Road to Wigan Pier) but he also put our little town on the map. I would love to see the site restored and used as a leisure and learning hub…. Let us educate our children about our town and its long long history. Done correctly this could not only inject some much needed cash into the council fund but also inject the knowledge of our wonderful town into our children and visitors alike.
