The @UglyFruitAndVeg Campaign
Mar 10, 2016
On March 5, Whole Foods announced that it will start selling “ugly” produce! Starting in April, they will partner with the company Imperfect Produce in a pilot program to display less attractive -- but still healthy -- fruits and vegetables in the store's produce department. The change will help pave the path to reduce food waste and give customers a new, low-cost option when food shopping.
This truly could not have happened without your support! Last fall, we spoke with Whole Foods executives after your signatures -- more than 100,000 -- brought our campaign to national attention. During those discussions, we introduced them to our friends at Imperfect Produce, and made a compelling pitch for the importance of fighting food waste. Now, we have the proof that our combined efforts have paid off.
Huge thanks to every single one of you for making this change happen. We're looking forward to your continued support as we continue to fight food waste -- next up, Walmart!
