Save our Sea Shore - Hideaway Bay - No coastal highway to Blackcurrent Island Boat Ramp!

The issue

There is a proposal before Council to build a 1 kilometer 8 meter wide 4.5 meter high bitumen highway along the Hideaway Coastal Marine reserve from the heart of Hideaway Bay to the beautiful native reserve of Blackcurrent Island to facilitate an all tide boat ramp. This would destroy a natural beach environment with nesting turtles and sea birds that is enjoyed by the whole Community of Hideaway Bay.

There is already a functional boat ramp at Dingo beach with all the necessary toilets, barbecue, fuel, bait and ice facilities nearby that could be upgraded at a fraction of the estimated $ 13.8 m cost.

The proposed ramp (45 parkings) only addresses a small fraction of the current peak ramp users (> 125 vehicles and trailers). It will lead to inevitable ramp rage never mind the destruction of a significant coastal environmental haven.

Hideaway Bay and Dingo Beach have no reticulated water and residents are currently having to import water at $ 250 a load. So there are far more significant community needs to be met before that of a small group of fishermen who can still use the existing ramp at Dingo Beach.
