CALL TO ACTION! URGENT! PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE! (IMPORTANT: When sharing, please cut and paste this entire post above the petition link-a very crucial call to action is contained within) The Pig Wrestling Contest at the Whitley County 4-H Fair is fast approaching on July 20, 2015 and we need to stand as one and let our opposition be known! Please sign the petition to cancel this cruel event. The Whitley Co 4-H Fair website makes it clear that it is the Whitley Co 4-H, INC, Board of Directors who are responsible for the content of the fair. Please contact them via their Facebook pages (links listed below) and let them know that we want this inhumane event cancelled for good. Also listed below are the names, phone numbers, and emails of the county commissioners. Please contact them, as well. USDA APHIS Enforcement The United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health and Inspection Service requires registration of animal Exhibitors and Transporters (official terms). We have found that the pig suppliers are not in compliance with this. As mentioned in a previous EA post, Kyle Bailey, Noble County Fair President, is also the supplier of pigs for at least 5 Indiana county fairs. Whitley County 4-H Fair being one of them. Please report the supplier Mr. Kyle Bailey of HORSESHOEING KYLE BAILEY INC. as an unlicensed/unregistered vendor transporting animals and exhibiting them to the public at county fairs with the proposed dates of transport being 7/13 to the Noble County Fair in Kendalville, 7/20 to the Whitley County Fair in Columbia City, and 7/29 to the Allen County Fair in Forty Wayne Indiana: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/wps/portal/aphis/ourfocus/animalwelfare/complaint-form http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ Please make sure you make the complaint on account of an unlicensed vendor exhibiting animals to the public and transporting (especially across state lines) as farm animals are not protected by AWA (Animal Welfare Act) so complaints about the nature of their treatment during the event is not actionable by the USDA. Supposedly, it could take up to a month, two weeks at the very earliest to become registered once the inspectors arrive. If the pigs cannot be transported, there is a good chance the pig wrestling event may need to be cancelled but complaints need to be filed ASAP for this to happen! Another shocking aspect is that 4-H is supporting and including an event that encourages animal cruelty. Interestingly, one of the claimed missions of the 4-H is to help young people reach their full potential by teaching the values of the Heart, including ‘relating and caring.’ One has to wonder how a child witnessing several people overpowering an innocent, terrified animal ‘for fun’ instills a sense of compassion and caring. Let’s raise our voices together and bring an end to this barbaric event by acting now! It takes an army…and you’re it!
