Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we are grateful for. As an Asian American, I deeply value this tradition as an opportunity to express appreciation—not just for personal blessings but also for those who inspire us through their courage and dedication.

This year, I want to honor Dr. Ko, a leader whose resilience has exposed critical flaws in Taiwan’s justice system. During his tenure as mayor, he overcame countless challenges, completing impactful projects like Taiwan’s largest sports stadium, where many of our greatest moments were celebrated. Yet now, as he sits in a detention center facing political persecution, his contributions are being overshadowed.

Dr. Ko’s unjust detention, now exceeding 85 days without evidence, is more than a personal injustice—it is a calculated act of political suppression. This effort to weaken third-party leadership consolidates power by manipulating public perception, controlling narratives, and silencing dissent. Such tactics undermine the democratic principles that Taiwan strives to uphold.

Taiwan may not celebrate Thanksgiving, but gratitude can’t go unspoken—especially for public figures like Dr. Ko, who have sacrificed so much. While we continue to wait and hope for justice, I want to say: Thank you, Dr. Ko, for everything you do for the people of Taiwan.

今天是美國感恩節。身為亞裔美國人，我珍視這個傳統，不僅是為了感謝個人所擁有的一切，更是為了致敬那些以勇氣與奉獻啟發我們的人們。

今年，我想向柯文哲醫師致敬。他正在用他堅韌的意志力對抗及揭露臺灣司法體系的缺陷。在擔任市長期間，他克服了無數挑戰，完成了許多具有影響力的項目，例如興建完工全台最大的室內綜合場館（台北大巨蛋），我們在那裡慶祝過無數重要時刻，但如今認真做事的人卻因政治迫害被囚禁在看守所中，他的貢獻被刻意掩蓋。

至今已超過85天且無任何證據持續羈押中，他遭到的不公平羈押不僅是個人的不幸，更是一場有計劃的政治迫害，意旨在削弱第三勢力的影響力並鞏固執政黨的權力優勢。這樣的策略包括操控輿論、壟斷敘事，並壓制社會上不同聲音，藉以維持既有的政治格局及統治地位，這些行為直接損害了臺灣致力追求的民主價值。

雖然台灣並不慶祝感恩節，但感謝之情不應被忽略，特別是對像柯醫生這樣為社會付出良多的公共人物。在我們持續等待並期待正義的到來之時，我想說：謝謝您，柯醫師，為台灣人民所做的一切！
