End The 50p petrol scam by forcing petrol vendors to install return gauges.

End The 50p petrol scam by forcing petrol vendors to install return gauges.

The Issue

You may not be aware but every time you fill up at the pump the petrol line is actually empty to begin with. The petrol then needs to be pumped up from the tank to the nozzle which you use to fill your vehicle.

However, the metre for reading how much money you pay is attached to the petrol pump and not the nozzle. That means by the time the petrol has travelled from the tank to the nozzle you have already been charged around 50p without any petrol going into your tank.

At the end of the end of filling your car, you then place the petrol nozzle back onto the pump, at which time the petrol in the pipe is then returned back to the tanks. This means every time you fill up, you are charged around 50p for petrol you never actually get.

This is a safety feature to ensure that petrol does not remain in the line, but it doesn't excuse the fact that you are being charged for it.

How many times in a year do you fill up? Each time you pay 50p extra for something you have never received.

Although it is a safety feature, garages are using it to their advantage to con you out of 50 pence every time you fill up.

We want the government to put a stop to it by passing legislation that will require petrol pump operators to either.

1. Only begin charging when the petrol leaves the nozzle and enters the vehicle tank.

2. Put a gauge to monitor how much fuel is returned to the storage tanks and deduct that from the bill.

Sign this petition calling on Westminster to pass legislation to stop this from happening.
