Irish Rail signed a 12 year lease with Mayo County Council on April 1 2015 releasing 12km of the closed Claremorris-Collooney route for leisure purposes as a velorail,  It is due for renewal on April 1st 2027 and it is likely that Irish Rail and Mayo County Council will renew this license then .

The  question that needs to be answered by Irish Rail,  is why has Irish Rail supported using the closed railway route for leisure purposes in Mayo as a velorail but is refusing to allow use of the closed railway route in Sligo for leisure purposes?

It would appear to be a decision laden with prejudicial favour towards one project; the Velorail, against another, the Sligo Greenway.  This is not fair and reasonable from a public body.

We will be launching a new petition soon asking people who have signed this petition to sign the new petition being sent to Irish Rail asking them to release the closed railway route from Charlestown to Collooney for a greenway.  Please watch out for this new petition, and make comments below
