Mayo county council are once again calling on the public to make submissions on the new county plan, the current county plan 2014-2020 is going to be reviewed and in two years, a new plan will be launched for 2020-2026. In 2013 our campaign managed to get 287 submissions on the county plan asking for a greenway on the closed railway, we were ignored. There is a lot of history in this matter; but Mayo county council are still ignoring our campaign, they need to know we have not gone away. At some stage they will have to listen. This is the start of our campaign to get submissions in their thousands if possible sent to Mayo coco. The link to the planning process is included, but we need to start this now, please send a short email to countydevplan@mayococo.ie put this in the subject head Review of Mayo County Development Plan
Please make these points:
The closed railway from the Mayo County border at Milltown to Charlestown is not going to be re-opened.
The route north of Claremorris in particular will never be re-opened
This route should be utilised as a greenway as part of the National Cycle Network
The Mayo section of greenway on the closed railway would connect with the Sligo greenway from Collooney to charlestown which is currently supported by Sligo county council and the proposed Athenry- Tuam -Milltown greenway on the closed railway in Galway which is also under consideration.
In Kiltimagh where the council is promoting a velorail on 12km of the closed railway, for this section a parallel greenway should be put in place
Please adopt these ideas in the county plan.
Thank you etc etc
Thanks everyone, we must keep the pressure up!! Brendan.
