OK folks , it is time to stand up & be counted , Galway county council will be voting to green light a feasibility study for the Galway section of the Western Rail Trail (Athenry Tuam Greenway) on or about the 25th of September , last time this came up sixteen councillors voted for it & sixteen were against , there were five abstentions & the chair used his vote to shoot it down . This time we need to get all signatories of this petition with Galway connections to inundate all the councillors with emails & phone calls to let them know how much the people of Athenry and Tuam want & need this Greenway to run on this route , we are not anti- rail , but with this weeks news that the Athenry - Ennis line may be shut down to cut costs , a Greenway would be the best use of the alignment until such time as a railway if ever is possible . Feel free to share your experiences on other greenways & what you want the Athenry Tuam Greenway part of the Western Rail Trail to aspire to & the difference that you think it will make to your communities . I am including the email address of all Galway county councillors please start sending your messages of support for the Greenway , people power is the only way this will be built , also talk to your friends, neighbors & work colleges about it & get them emailing too .
