Help us to change the Western Warriors Mascot. Some have argued that the mascot has stood behind them for decades representes their school spirit and strength, however they don’t see how hurtful it is to those who have fought for their culture to be heard and respected.

What is the definition of a Warrior?
Noun. (Especially in former times) a brave or experienced soldier or fighter.
Fighter, soldier, serviceman, combatant, mercenary, “fearsome warriors”.

We can be warriors without a hurtful image

(from the APA resolution) The continued use of American Indian mascots, symbols, images, and personalities undermines the educational experiences of members of all communities-especially those who have had little or no contact with Indigenous peoples, the continued use of American Indian mascots, symbols, images, and personalities establishes an unwelcome and often times hostile learning environment for American Indian students that affirms negative images/stereotypes that are promoted in mainstream society

The American Psychological Association encourages the development of programs for the public, to increase awareness of the psychological effects that American Indian mascots, symbols, images, and personalities have on American Indian communities and others;
AND the APA supports and recommends the immediate retirement of American Indian mascots, symbols, images, and personalities by schools, colleges, universities, athletic teams, and organizations.

Work as a community to find a common ground where everyone feels respected and valued. There is a way to keep our school pride without the disrespect of a race based mascot.

Urgency:
Stop the misrepresentation of the culture. A headdress, war paint*, whoop cries are all harmful stereotypical representations.
