Results of the Feedback on Dog and Cat Laws in WA survey from 2019 have been tabled in Parliament. The Government received over 1,250 written submissions and 5,822 online survey responses.  The findings were decisive:

73% supported confinement of cats to premises

56% agreed that cats are a nuisance in their neighbourhood

88% agreed cats should be kept inside at night.

51% view cat attacks on animals, wildlife, other cats and people as an issue.

From the report:

"A consistent theme in the feedback to the review was that there should be State-wide laws about cat confinement and numbers of cats allowed."

"Strong support for cat numbers and confinement/curfews of cats to be implemented State-wide (in legislation) rather than through individual local laws – to provide consistency among local governments."

"Multiple requests in the feedback received for the Cat Act to be brought into alignment with the Dog Act by placing greater restrictions on cat owners in relation to the number of cats that people can own."
