Petition for WVU to Stand Up for Science

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

As students, faculty, and/or supporters of West Virginia University, we ask that WVU produce a statement of firm commitment to science.

We are specifically concerned about the acknowledgement of scientific fact related to climate change, protection of lands, water, and air, and the ability for students and researchers to conduct and publish scientific reports for the public to access.

Since January 21, 2017, we have witnessed the freezing of Environmental Protection Agency grants, House and Senate votes to repeal a stream protection rule created to protect streams and coal country residents from mining debris, and an EPA administrator nominee who doubts the connection between human activity and climate change.

We believe strongly in the power of scientific research and higher education and hope that our university will commit its word to support scientists and data-driven facts, protection of our nation’s lands, and public access to information related to our ever-changing environment.

By signing this petition, you are agreeing that West Virginia University should release a statement or letter regarding our country’s new administration’s responsibility to address the concerns listed above.
