Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition. Your efforts have been instrumental in advocating for the lives of transgender Hoosiers. However, our work is not limited to a petition.
FRSO Indiana urges you to take the next critical step by contacting your representatives on the West Lafayette City Council and urging them to protect gender-affirming care by passing a safe haven resolution. Below, you will find the contact information for the council members, along with a prepared script to use.
Solidarity Forever!
Script:
Dear [Council Member's Name],
My name is [Your Name], and I am a resident of West Lafayette and a constituent in your district. I am emailing you to urge you to bring forth and support a resolution establishing West Lafayette as a safe haven for transgender individuals by shielding them—and the healthcare providers who serve them—from prosecution for receiving or providing gender-affirming care.
Gender-affirming healthcare is widely recognized as medically necessary and lifesaving by all leading health organizations and the wider medical community. However, recent efforts by Donald Trump and the Indiana Republican Party have sought to restrict access to this essential field of care.
By passing a safe haven resolution, West Lafayette can affirm its commitment to diversity and take a stand for a group of people who are currently undergoing discrimination and mistreatment.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
