In a one hour panel discussion aired on the ABC on Tuesday 20th Mar 2018, 10:00am; it was revealed by Stedman Ellis, Chief Operating Officer for Western Australia of The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) that $380M had been invested into developing fracking locations in Western Australia and the industry was not prepared to back away from it's investments. Ellis also highlighted the $30M per year in royalties that the government stood to loose if the industry was not allow to operate. The discussion took place the morning following the close of the Independent Scientific Panel Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracture Stimulation in Western Australia, which had been initiated by the West Australian government. While it is currently unclear how many submissions had been made to the inquiry - it has been estimated that over 8,500 submissions have been entered.
