Urge the 17 Banks Funding the Dakota Access Pipeline to withdraw their support immediately

38 banking institutions are involved in funding the proposed Bakken pipeline, which would stretch from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. A section of this project is the Dakota Access pipeline, where the Standing Rock Sioux and thousands of allies have physically put themselves in the path of the pipeline to protect their reservation, a stretch of the Missouri River and six surrounding states downstream. The Dakota Access pipeline is funded directly by 17 of those 38 banks.

These banks are either directly or indirectly funding and hence supporting a heavily militarized and illegal response to the Standing Rock Sioux, including the attack dogs, sound-cannon trucks, heavily armed officers, and even a crop duster spraying undetermined chemicals over the camp.

These institutions should not be supporting any project that is the cause of blatant abuse of power in violently attempting to shut down the rights and voices of the people.  Nor should they be sinking so much money into maximizing the amounts of oil and gas that can be brought to the surface and burned at a time when climate science is clear we have to maximize what we keep in the ground and investing in clean energy solutions instead.

The Bakken and the Dakota Access portion are inherently dangerous and unjust oil pipelines that threatens air and water quality in many states and violate sacred lands of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.

We the people of the United States and citizens of the world who support a sustainable and just life for ALL, reject your investment in a pipeline that is both dangerous environmentally and the cause of so many human rights injustices.  We urge you to give up your stake in the Dakota Access Pipeline, showing your values and commitment to moving away from dirty oil, coal and police violence and instead use your financial investments to further green energy solutions that we can all celebrate!  Thank you!
