The issue

We, as citizens of New Zealand, stand against President Donald Trump's proposal to annex Greenland and the imposition of a burdensome 10% tariff on countries that do not align with the United States. This isn’t just a distant diplomatic disagreement—it’s deeply personal to us. It threatens the values we hold dear, the spirit of independence we cherish, and the solidarity with Europe and Greenland that forms the bedrock of our own national identity.

We must resist fascism whenever it seeks to impose itself. The proposed annexation is not merely a political maneuver; it signals a disregard for the sovereignty of nations and a dangerous shift towards authoritarianism that history has shown us must be fought against rigorously and relentlessly. The 10% tariff stands as a coercive penalty against nations, including New Zealand, that choose to stand by their principles rather than submit to external pressures.

New Zealand must take a stand on the global stage as we rally our government and fellow citizens to vehemently oppose these proposals. We urge our leaders to vocally condemn the annexation of Greenland and support efforts to maintain its integrity as a sovereign territory.

Further, in line with our own historical struggles for independence, we must support Europe and Greenland in defending their autonomy and voice against the overreach from those who would seek to impose their will upon them, just as we historically rejected such measures.

We call on New Zealand’s government to initiate dialogue with European leaders, build a coalition, and work through the United Nations to bring this issue to the forefront, ensuring respect for international law and sovereignty.
