Another state, Maryland, is moving a bill that will require presidential candidates to release their tax returns in order to be on the ballot. We need this! Trump has changed the norms and successfully kept his tax returns secret from the public -- but not from Robert Mueller I suspect. The Maryland Senate passed Senate Bill 256 on Monday. It now moves on to the Maryland House of Delegates (which has a Democratic majority) for a vote. If it passes, it will go to Republican Governor Larry Hogan for his signature or veto. Here is a link to the bill: http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2018RS/bills/sb/sb0256t.pdf If Hogan signs the bill (which is clearly a long shot), the bill still faces a legal challenge. IF YOU LIVE IN MARYLAND, PLEASE CALL YOUR MARYLAND STATE DELEGATE AND GOVERNOR HOGAN AND EXPRESS YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE BILL. Governor Hogan's office: 410-974-3901 or 1-800-811-8336 MD House of Delegates: List of delegates and their districts -- http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/hsedist.html Sample call script: "I'm a constituent and I am deeply concerned that our current president has failed to release his tax returns, unlike all of the modern presidential candidates before him. It's clear he is trying to hide something and now he is mired in an ongoing and damaging investigation. Voters deserve total transparency from our presidential candidates before we enter the voting booth. Please support the bill that would require candidates on a presidential ticket to release the most recent five years of their tax returns in order to get on the state's ballot. This is a reasonable ask in a democracy." Thanks, in advance, Marylanders, for your calls!
