As a user of a feature phone—a dumb phone with basic smartphone functions—I greatly value having WhatsApp on my keypad phone. For many of us, especially seniors or those looking to escape the constant pull of social media, WhatsApp on KaiOS devices is a real asset. 

Unfortunately, Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced its plans to stop supporting KaiOS, the operating system installed on many feature phones, by 2025. This decision means WhatsApp would no longer be available on these devices.

This doesn’t just affect a few people—there are over 150 million KaiOS devices in use worldwide! Millions of people rely on these affordable phones to stay connected with friends and family without getting caught up in the complexities of smartphones. In areas with limited internet access, feature phones are a vital bridge to the digital world.

We urge Meta to reconsider this decision and ensure WhatsApp remains available on KaiOS devices. Access to communication should be guaranteed for all devices and operating systems.
