The Issue

We believe the campaign seeking Brenda Power's removal from the International Protection Appeals Tribunal is driven by ideological opposition to her views rather than a fair appreciation of her distinguished career and service to Ireland.

Brenda Power is an accomplished Irish barrister, journalist, author and broadcaster whose professional career spans more than four decades.

Throughout that career, she has made an extraordinary contribution to Irish public life. Her intelligence, independence of thought, resilience and unwavering willingness to address difficult and controversial issues have earned her the admiration and respect of countless Irish people.

Brenda Power has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to Ireland and its people. She has consistently shown the courage to express her convictions, even when doing so has attracted criticism and hostility. Her ability to withstand such pressure without abandoning her principles is among her most admirable qualities.

Her extensive legal knowledge, professional experience and understanding of Irish society make her an exceptionally valuable contributor to public life. She combines intellectual ability with practical judgement, a strong sense of responsibility and a deep familiarity with the concerns of ordinary Irish people.

We value her expertise. We admire her resilience. We appreciate her contribution to our national conversation, and we recognise the importance of experienced, independently minded people serving in public office.

Her appointment to the International Protection Appeals Tribunal is a further chapter in a distinguished professional career. We believe her experience and abilities are assets to that institution and to Ireland.

We, the undersigned, wish to express our appreciation for Brenda Power and our support for her continued service on the International Protection Appeals Tribunal.

We want Brenda Power to know that her contribution has not gone unnoticed, that her resilience is admired, and that her decades of professional achievement and public service are valued.

We stand with Brenda Power.
