On November 6th, 2018, Progressives were disappointed as their hopes for Democratic candidate Beto O'Rourke to win a Texas Senate position, the first time for a Democrat to do so in over two decades, were shot down with the re-election of Senator Ted Cruz.

Beto announced in October that he had no intention of running for President of the United States in 2020 if he was to lose the race, an announcement that proves itself particularly disappointing in the wake of that loss.

Our nation is more divided than ever in its second year of President Trump, and we need a strong candidate to run against him in 2020 if we have any chance of winning this race. It isn't enough to simply be a Democratic candidate in today's age. We need somebody fresh and exciting if we want to win, somebody who knows how to light fires under voters, somebody who will not only run a campaign but start a true movement. We need a true candidate of the people, somebody who inspires the hearts of many.

During O'Rourke's campaign for Senator, Texas has seen record turnouts for mid-term elections, numbers that are being compared to actual Presidential elections. A true grassroots movement, Beto refused campaign donations from any PACs and ran a campaign funded entirely by the people he sought out to represent. Beto's support is not just from Texas but has been seen and experienced nationwide and I, for one, cannot think of a more worthy candidate to continue this fight with us and to take it all the way to the White House.

Perhaps if we can get enough signatures, if we can show Mr. O'Rourke just how strong our support for him is, just how much we need him, he will reconsider his position on running in 2020.

This act does not effect just one individual person, or even several, but impacts an entire nation who is ready for change after what we have experienced since January of 2017 with Trump's election. Beto is the face of hope, and we need him more than ever.

Polls show that Beto received 4,015,082 votes in his run for Senator. Let's see if we can get that many signatures to start with? Ambitious? Good. Because ambition is what we need to inspire the change that we need.
