You, yourself, judge whether a student in college will be able to understand Philippine History if the last time he learned it in full is grade school. 

College students are expected to study a higher level of Philippine History. That will be a difficult task if your prior knowledge will date back to grade school. You need Philippine History in high school (both JHS and SHS) to affirm your developmental knowledge in Philippine History.
