The Westside Trail NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT AGAIN!!

I’m writing you with what many may find a surprising request.
I’m asking you to 1) JOIN THE SIERRA CLUB (only $15 below) and 2) SUPPORT MICAH POSNER for the local Sierra Club Executive Committee.

LET ME EXPLAIN.

First, recent leaders of the local Sierra Club are filing appeals and lawsuits delaying the Westside Trail, even though national Sierra Club policy encourages such projects. NOT A SINGLE ONE of their anti-trail actions have been sustained by the Coastal Commission, old or new City Councils, RTC, or the courts, but their actions are costing us money and DELAYING OUR TRAIL!

As a Lifetime Sierra Club member, this upsets me.

For example, they worked against the trestle bridge over the San Lorenzo River and have delayed parts of the Westside Trail, which is now finally about to start construction. Who knows what havoc they’ll try to wreak over the rest of the rail trail during the months and years ahead.

Second, long-time environmental activist MICAH POSNER is our best chance to regain proactive leadership for the local Sierra Club to focus on national and local priorities fighting climate change and supporting alternative transportation.

I’ve known and worked with Micah since his days at PeoplePower, and he was an early supporter of the Climate Action Program I started for the City of Santa Cruz. He has also been a steadfast supporter of building the Rail Trail, NOW, not just when it’s convenient at some point in the future. While I may not agree with Micah on everything, we need him leading the fight against climate change and supporting alternative transportation through our local Sierra Club.

And when you get your ballot in December, PLEASE VOTE FOR MICAH POSNER and the other proven rail trail champions.
