Re: Segment 7 – Phase 2 of the Rail Trail - Initial Study / Mitigated Negative Declaration
Dear Mr. Nguyen:
As a local resident, I am writing to indicate my unequivocal support of the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for Segment 7 of the Rail Trail (Phase II) from the intersection of Bay and California to the head of the Main Wharf at the termination of Pacific Avenue. Accordingly, I urge the City to promptly adopt the IS/MND. Construction of Segment 7 of the Rail Trail will provide a much needed car-free facility for bicyclists and pedestrians that will aid our community in improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians, increase our collective use of active transportation and reduce our collective greenhouse gas emissions. This project will be good for the environment and lead us into a more sustainable future.
I also noticed the proposed design includes several enhancements that actually improve upon the original project envisioned in the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network Master Plan adopted in 2013.
The IS/MND deserves the City's adoption as it is a thorough document which adequately addresses environmental impacts and proposes sound, solid, effective mitigations.
Thanks to the City and the Regional Transportation Commission for their excellent work in moving this segment of the 32 mile Coastal Rail Trail forward.
Respectfully,
