Several updates along all of the Santa Cruz Trail with the first Groundbreaking likely in September and the rest moving ahead.
JUST IMAGINE BIKING WITH YOUR KIDS OR FRIENDS FROM THE FAR WESTSIDE TO THE HARBOR & TWIN LAKES ON A DEDICATED BIKE/PEDESTRIAN PATH WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS!!
* The groundbreaking for this first section (Bay to Natural Bridges) will hopefully be in mid-September, depending on the bids!!! This is a little later than originally hoped because the construction companies needed more time to prepare their competitive bids given how busy it is right now.
* The environmental review for the next section (Bay to the Wharf) is now complete and should go to the Planning Commission in August or September with design completion soon thereafter.
* The Historic Preservation Committee UNANIMOUSLY approved the trestle expansion over the mouth of the San Lorenzo River to accomodate both bikes and pedestrians. Next up is Coastal Commission review, which should be supportive.
* A grant request to fund Segments 8 & 9 (from the Boardwalk through Seabright and by the Harbor to Twin Lakes) has been submitted.
NOW WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP THE PRESSURE ON TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM DERAILING OUR TRAIL.
On related news, the environmental review and consideration of options for the North Coast Trail on up to Davenport is underway and should be considered this year as well!!
Also, the City of Capitola is suing so-called Greenway for its ballot measure to override the City's General Plan and prevent planned regional funding for the trail through Capitola.
HAPPY CYCLING AND HIKING!!
