OUR TRAIL STILL CAN'T BE BUILT!!

I've heard from both the City and New Leaf that there is NO DEAL YET to get our trail built NOW!! We've already waited 4 weeks since New Leaf said they would make it happen, but last Tuesday the City Council voted unanimously to condemn and acquire a small strip of land to BUILD OUR TRAIL to the minimum standards set by the RTC. However, I've also heard that there are now ACTIVE NEGOTIATIONS underway, so I hope everything can be resolved SOON. If not, we'll have to reactivate this petition and even step up to pickets and boycotting if necessary to get the trail we need NOW!. On a more positive note, I really appreciate all of those who responded to the PETITION SIGNERS SURVEY. Based on the analysis to date, we know that nearly two-thirds of the signers are from Santa Cruz, with nearly half on the Westside near the Trail. The group is older and affluent, with an average age of 56 and 75% being homeowners. They are PASSIONATE about the Trail and FRUSTATED about delays and detours. While nearly two-thirds want more information on the proposed rail trail, they start out favoring retention of the rail for possible future use by more than 5 to 1.
