Message from Mayor of North Port: Debbie McDowell

In the past, you asked me to keep you posted about internet throughout the city …. I have some good news to share.

We have received exciting news! Frontier Communications has started submitting permits to install over 114 miles of Conduit and Fiber Optic Cable throughout North Port. Some plans have already cleared the permitting process. These are much needed projects which will bring Internet to many new areas of the City, including the Estates area. Our staff and Commission have been working with the private sector to encourage this growth of technology in our area. Frontier is already installing fiber optic in a few City neighborhoods.

Starting in September 2020, Frontier will begin working in the following areas:

-South side of Tropicaire Boulevard between Sumter Boulevard and Biscayne Drive.

-Neighborhoods off of Tropicaire Boulevard, Sumter Boulevard and Salford Boulevard.

In 2021, Frontier will continue installing conduit and fiber optic cable in other areas of the City. We’re hopeful this project continues to move forward.

It will still take quite some time to get everything up and running, but at least this a step in a positive direction!
