Disability services safety net: no one should fall through the cracks!

We need a safety net for people with disability.
The NSW Government has already begun to dismantle all public disability services in NSW.
The government insists this must happen in order to support the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) but this is simply a pretext for the government to rid itself of the responsibility for providing disability services to our most vulnerable citizens, including extremely vulnerable children.
The NDIS is supposed to be about “choice and control” but the NSW Government’s privatisation allows private providers to refuse services and evict clients.
Without a Government Safety Net they will have nowhere to go. Tragically this has led to people with disability being stuck in hospital wards or unable to leave prison because no-one will take them.
We ask you to help ensure that our loved ones continue to have a genuine choice of provider, and are not left with nowhere to turn because they are deemed a “business risk”.
We are asking that the NSW Government retain critical services, maintain a safety net and stop the transfer to private providers.
Why is this important?
It is important to retain government operated disability services to maintain a safety net for clients whose needs may not be met by the private system.
If this transfer is not stopped, NSW will not have a public disability services safety-net.
We need a government that cares for its most vulnerable citizens, not one that auctions services off to the highest bidder.
