No one discussed cost with my patient who could not afford her medications. We had not discussed costs because we did not know costs. As a direct result she chose to pay for other basic expenses. Her blood pressure skyrocketed. Crushing chest pain sent her to emerg where she was admitted after having a heart attack. We are DONE not having conversations about drug affordability while in the offices of our caregivers. Having access to drug costs on EMR could have prevented this.
