I'll be the guest speaker at the next Durham Landlords Association (DLA) meeting on Tuesday, May 14th starting at 7 pm at:

DLA is expecting a journalist/reporter from Durham Region News will be present. They've invited others but their attendance is yet unconfirmed.
Topic: Petition Update - A Lot Has Happened
A lot has happened since I posted the auto-evict petition on Feb. 21, 2024. The petition was signed by an average 3,000 people/day in the first week and has since grown to almost 40,000 signatures (and still growing daily).
In the upcoming meeting, I'll be updating attendees on the current status of the petition and the two significant meetings that occurred very recently that could result in an outcome at the LTB that we've all been asking for. If that happens before this DLA meeting, then I'll be discussing whatever that outcome is.
We've learned a lot in that time so strategies for achieving the petition objective have evolved significantly too.
I'll also update you on the newly-formed petition committee comprising twelve volunteers, including me. We have formulated an action plan covering a range of tasks, all related to furthering the objective of the petition, which is the immediate return of a rental property by the LTB to its rightful owner when the tenant has breached their government-authored tenancy contract.
With 40,000 keenly interested housing providers, there's a unique opportunity to create a compelling voice for the small-to-medium housing provider industry that hasn't existed for a long time, if ever.

I had a tragic event happen earlier this week for the first time in my rental units. I'll talk a bit about that too.
Meeting Fee
Cost to attend is $20/meeting (in person and Zoom) to defray the cost of the meeting room, Internet services, coffee, etc. or $100 for a one-year membership.
