It urkes me that everytime there's a crisis at present, we always have to prove the seriousness of the issue using a certain "catchy" hashtag. Don't get me wrong, hashtags have been our saving grace at often times. I mean we've achieved alot with them but at this point in time, is it always so necessary to prove a point through them? If I get abused, raped, violated or imprisoned should I now potray my scars in the form of an eloquently written hashtag in order to gain acceptance that my pain is a big deal? The "if it's not in a hashtag then it's not important" mentality has probably destroyed more lives than the vile human hands that claim them. My little rant just stems from the fact that it took a hashtag for Amna Aljuaid, Dina Ali and the rest of those women to be recognized for the atrocities committed against them. Do you realise that without those hashtags being created, they would have NEVER sparked international attention? They wouldn't have even gained attention from humanitarian organisations let alone an acknowledgement from them. If Amna wasn't a hashtag, she would have been the girl everybody ignored on Reddit If Dina wasn't a hashtag, she would have been the loud crazy girl who screamed her way out of the airport. If Saudi Women wern't hashtags, they would have been deemed as Middle Eastern women who dont know their place in society. It took effort for their pain to be deemed as a "Pain" worth the admirable attention, as if nobodies pain is worth that sort of status. Sad isn't? My point is, we need to develop beyond media recognition and tech savvy langauage. We shouldn't respond to a crisis just because it took a repetitve hashtag to deem its importance. For once, can victims actually cry for help without feeling the need to prove their pain, explain their pain or make verifications of their pain. I always say that this world has made justice an overcomplicated concept that only a few know its tricks. It shouldn't be that way. It should have not been that way in the first place. Lets rise BEYOND hashtags and the media stunts. Are hashtags bad? Certainly Not! But it shouldnt be a defining factor for a pain to be deemed "worth" of attention especially for the voiceless and the oppressed. P.S: A march will be taking place TOMMOROW (7th March 2018) Venue: Downing Street, London Topics: WarCrimes AND Male Guardianship must end!! PLEASE DONT MISS OUT AND BE THERE!! WE need your voices!
