In the case of Lance Burgess, 24, of  Cornwall, Ontario we ask that the strongest consequences and pentalties be imposed on this animal abuser.

In January 2015, through conscious choice,  Burgess beat tortured and tormented two cats and disposed of them in a dumpster.

The time of leniency for animal abusers is over. The people of Ontario want those in a positions of authority, to stop allowing horrendous acts on any animal by giving these criminals a slap on the hand. Often the  OSPCA and judicial system of Ontario minimize these criminal acts by not enforcing the laws available to them to protect animals.  The maximum penalty allowed under the criminal code is a maximum $60,000 fine, 2 years in jail and a life time ban on owning animals. To date, this has never been enforced.  Unfortunately many animal abusers get off with a small fine.  It is time for that statistic to change. We want this criminal abuser to clearly understand, through a life ban on owning an animal, a jail sentence and a stiff fine, that his actions or anything similar can never to be repeated. 

It is not uncommon for animal abusers to manifest their actions into child abuse. Only with stringent consequences will they learn this type of behaviour is not acceptable.

We ask that you serve the people, in the position you have been given, by requesting the Crown Attorney impose a strong penalty and set an example to show animal cruelty in any form will not be tolerated.

Lance Burgess was charged with the following:

One count of causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal

One count of wounding and injuring an animal

Two counts of abandoning an animal in distress

Two counts of failing to provide adequate food, water, shelter and care.

He will appear to enter a plea of guilty on April 16, 2015  in the Ontario Court at Cornwall, Ontario and we hope that justice for these poor animals will prevail.
