Support Rutgers Students: Meal Plan Refunds
Thank you for supporting adjunct (PTL) faculty at Rutgers University! We have collected over 3000 signatures and will be submitting our petition to the RU Administration and Board of Governors this week.
As PTLs, we care deeply about our students, and it is important to us that they be treated fairly by the University during the COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. One of the many ways in which Rutgers is not prioritizing the wellbeing of our students during this devastating disruption in their academic careers is by denying students a fair refund for unused portions of their meal plans, which has only contributed to the financial hardship our students are already facing during this difficult time. We strongly encourage you to sign the following petition, which was started by a Rutgers student, calling for a reversal of the University's unfair refund policy, announced on April 18th, for unused meal plans. The policy allows the University to keep more than 25% of a student's payments for meals which were never provided.

This is a petition about asking Rutgers to give flexibility to students who have a meal plan, namely we call for more options for students to decide how they want to manage their remaining balance in Spring 2020. Students need flexibility, not a strict policy that deprives many students of their property rights, as the world is experiencing this unprecedented crisis.
- We are asking Rutgers to offer "options" for students to decide how they want to manage their remaining balance. Apart from receiving refund based on one single, strict policy that was issued on April 18, we suggest that Rutgers allow students to carry over their meal plan to the semester when school goes back to normal.
- If students cannot continue to use their remaining meal plan to the subsequent semester when face-to-face instructions resume, and they are not receiving the full service they have paid for, Rutgers should issue a refund to every student with a meal plan based on the number of remaining swipes.
