UPDATE ON THE NRA: Many of you are asking about the status of NRA's support of TRUCKER LIVES MATTER

UPDATE ON THE NRA: Many of you are asking about the status of NRA's support of TRUCKER LIVES MATTER and our proposed Michael's Law Amendment bill. Here is the latest... NRA refuses to work with us on the Michael's Law Amendment. They put out something a while back that inferred they supported the original Mike's Law but if you read what they said closely they never said they supported Mike's Law, they said they supported the underlying right that Mike's Law sought to address. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, their NRA-ILA lobbying staff worked to block Mike's Law from being introduced to clear the way for their national reciprocity bill to be seriously considered as the only proposal on the table. I have not talked about their past political maneuvering for the past few years in the hopes we would strike an alliance with NRA-ILA, but they have not embraced us or adapted to our flexibility to address their concerns. The last time I publicly blew the whistle on what was happening behind the scenes, thousands of truckers told us they planned to cancel their NRA membership in disgust. We made multiple attempts since 2014 to work with them and even revised our original Mike's Law draft to address all of their concerns. For instance, our Plan B Michael's Law Amendment bill does NOT call for a special Federal business carry permit (they feared registration could lead to gun confiscation) and is NOT a "special carve out" just for truckers. Our new bill (see www.truckerlivesmatter.com for the full text that tweaks the existing Federal peaceful journey statute into essentially an endorsement of Constitutional right to carry interstate) applies to ALL AMERICANS. Also, despite multiple efforts, NRA did not endorse "DAY WITHOUT A TRUCKER". They ignored our event that paid tribute to 500 workers in transportation MURDERED over the past decade, including Mike Boeglin, whose truck is pictured here. Mike was murdered and burned in his truck in June 2014. Last month three truckers were shot three days in a row. This week alone a trucker was murdered at a truck stop and two more were violently assaulted. It appears the NRA could care less about truckers getting murdered at the rate of one per week. NRA-ILA is apparently in 'tunnel vision' mode, putting all their eggs in one basket, pushing their own bill in furtherance of over 12 years' worth of unsuccessful attempts to get it passed. Someone once said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. NRA-ILA simply refuses to join our bandwagon, apparently out of pride because they didn't think of our proposal themselves, which I find silly and petty. This is about solving the problem, not whose idea it was. We have invited them to make our bill, their bill. I believe their resistance remains the reason we have not gotten our bill introduced thus far as pro gun politicians are afraid to lose their NRA endorsement/grade and the PAC contributions from this powerful gun lobby. Apparently these spineless politicians in the swamp owned by NRA-ILA feel they have to ask NRA-ILA for permission before they sponsor or get behind a new gun bill. So without NRA behind the measure it is essentially DOA in Washington unless Senators or Representatives have the courage to stand up for what they believe is right for the nation. I suspect it will take a major European style terrorist truck jacking and a big TLM "I TOLD YOU SO" public campaign to secure and sway public opinion (i.e. votes) and to outweigh lobbyists' money. Sad that it has to come to reactive after the fact public outrage but that seems to be the way America makes public policy, never pro-active. Even if the NRA-ILA were to prevail on "national reciprocity," we believe the anti-gun states like New York would file and win a lawsuit that would go to SCOTUS to strike it down on 10th Amendment states' rights grounds (on the Constitutional theory that you can't force one state to accept the licensing standards of another state) and get it thrown out by the Court. Unfortunately, they cannot admit they are just spinning their wheels and I believe they are more about collecting membership dues so as to be viewed by their members as continuing to work on the problem rather than actually fix it. Our bill rests on the 'Commerce Clause' of the Constitution and would pre-empt states' ability to regulate the carrying of guns going from one state to another, something NRA told me they don't want to do because it would upset their Libertarian members who dream of a deay that all states respect the 2nd Amendment. I even went on NRA TV (those folks were great covering our efforts) to entice them to join us and make our bill their bill but NRA-ILA won't budge: https://youtu.be/YQP0aaEgpEo In a recent survey, 92% of trucker respondents indicated they would be a part of NRA if they got behind our bill: https://poll.fbapp.io/results/trucker-lives-matter-nra-poll Indeed, most truckers are watching what NRA is doing and are making their decisions whether to join NRA or renew based on NRA's rejection of the Michael's Law Amendment to 18 U.S.C. 926A. So, if you are an NRA member or a thinking about joining and you think that TRUCKER LIVES MATTER, you might want to let them hear from you about how important their getting behind our bill is to you. No valid reason why they can't support both bills. So there you have it, Drivers. That's the latest NRA scoop. Feel free to SHARE this update to spread the word to other Drivers.
