We, the citizens of Wayland who care about the health and safety of all our residents, including our children, request that our elected officials work together to locate school bus parking lots away from Wayland’s schools and Wayland’s neighborhoods.

Locating the bus parking lots at the proposed sites, Wayland Middle School or Claypit Hill School, would be a breach of trust by our elected officials and a disservice to Wayland residents and to our school communities. Such action will result in increased pollution, health hazards, safety hazards, and noise disturbances on school-grounds and for homes in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Town of Wayland moved the school buses from the Wayland High School campus to the septage facility on Route 20 in 2007 due to pollution and noise concerns that were affecting the Charena Farms neighborhood. In that case, the buses were located significantly further from neighboring homes than at either of the current proposed sites. Wayland's town officials responded to citizen’s concerns and the buses were located away from residential neighborhoods. 

The choice by current elected officials to make the two sites “a last resort” means they have decided to keep considering these locations, which is unacceptable and wrong. These sites need to be removed from the list of potential sites for buses.

We, the undersigned, request that our elected officials remove the proposed sites for the school bus parking, located at Wayland Middle School and Claypit Hill School, from the list of potential sites and that they work together to find a solution that is not detrimental to Wayland’s school children and our fellow Wayland residents.
