Last week, DPI released its annual performance report on the shark nets that show that of the 228 animals ensnared at NSW beaches during the 2022-23 season, just 24 were target sharks. 16 grey nurse sharks were caught, 2 were already dead and 14 were discovered still alive in the nets.
An online petition to NSW Legislative Assembly to protect marine wildlife by removing shark nets and instead promoting non-lethal ways of protecting swimmers at popular NSW beaches also went live.
The petition is only the NSW residents only, and must gather at least 20,000 signatures before October 19th, 2023, for Parliament to consider the issue.
Please have a voice and share this with with other NSW residents.
