Great News - I THINK we have won, but it's not a certainty yet...

Here is an update from SWSurrey Disabled Alliance Network (SWSDAN) I thought that I should update you regarding the situation relating car parking charges for holders of blue badges proposed by Waverley Borough Council. First of all the implementation of these car park charges remains SUSPENDED. Since our meeting with WBC on 27th April there has been no further contact from WBC relating to the various suggestions that were discussed which we were advised would have to be placed before elected members for decision for which we were advised that a "quick" decision could be made. One of the proposals made by WBC was that at least one car park meter, generally the one nearest designated disabled parking spaces, in each car park could be modified for greater accessibility. A site visit was requested to ascertain whether any proposed modifications would meet the needs of disabled people but we have now learned that the only modification that was likely to be proposed was dropped kerbs rather than any modification to the parking meter itself. I have advised WBC that if the only modification proposed would be a dropped kerb this would not meet the requirements of disabled users and that any site visit would be a waste of time. Please feel free to forward this e mail to anybody else who you believe might be interested. I will keep you informed of any further developments.
