After many months of campaigning, we are delighted to say that Waveney District Council have abandoned their attempts to create a trading company with themselves as sole shareholder.
At the end of 2018, Waveney District Council promised to consult with stakeholders about the future governance of the Harbour Lands. The consultation is here:

Part of the consultation documents are letters that Waveney District Council claim offer proof that they unequivocally own the harbour lands. They don't. They prove that Southwold Town Council conceded that they had to transfer them but thus far, no-one has been able to produce the documentation (the deeds of transfer) to say that this took place.
In the meantime, it's important to consider the consultation process as an opportunity to influence the management of the Harbour Lands regardless of ownership.
Talking to people today at the first consultation event, it would seem that the priority among stakeholders is a mechanism that prevents the sale of the land, a system that ensures that the revenues raised on Harbour Lands are invested in the area and that there is scope for local stakeholders and experts to have a say in how the area is managed.
All these elements need to be resolved BEFORE a management committee is created so that the area and its assets are protected for future generations.
Please do get involved in the consultation and have your say.
