The issue

Please sign this petition to object to Midfield International Pty Ltd plans to extend the industrial zone and its buffers.

Midfield International Pty Ltd plans include a Milk Processing Facility 3,000 square metres in area and 34 metres high which is equivalent to a 10 to 11 story building plus a Freezing and Cold Store Facility 1,800square metres and will be approximately 29metre high. Operations of the site will involve the transportation of meat to the site from the existing meat processing plant 150metres away. This will operate 24hours a day, 7days a week.

Residents are very concerned that these additional operations 'will' intensify the existing traffic with more truck movement, noise a constant droning sound 24hr around the clock affecting sleeping rhythms, air pollution and excessively strong odours will prevent residents and members of the public to happily partake of the outdoors. Milk powder dust is another concern as a health and safety issue. The environmental impact on the landscape will not only be heard and smelt but visually it will be towering over business and residential areas, not to mention the eyesore it will be to the social fabric of Warrnambool. The neighbouring internationally recognised Ramsar Wetlands are under threat.

Residents are not against the factory being built rather where it is proposed to be built in the midst of a well established residential zone. Scores of homes, recreational parks and facilities and two schools are all within cooee distance. A short distance further is the towns major hospital, more residential homes and businesses that form part of the City of Warrnambool.
Property devaluation is a serious threat to the regional city.

A hearing is scheduled for early February 2015
