Petition updateGet Google to Activate Trash & Hazard ReportingMajor Milestone Unlocked!

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your patience as we worked towards our last milestone of 500 supporters. It took some time, but we got there, and a few weeks later, we crossed the 600 mark.

Right now, 635 people have made their voices clear: Google should activate easy litter/hazard reporting!

It's an easy step for Google, but it would be a major leap in our ability to understand global waste/hazard flows. And yes, this applies to pollutants that are contributing to climate change.

Now the bad news. In a recent story in Outside magazine, contributing editor Rowan Jacobsen traveled with a group of business leaders and environmental activists to one of the great ocean "plastic gyres."  It's a great article, and you need to read the full story.

The bad news is that these leaders are still talking in terms of rough estimates:

Back in 2010, scientists estimate, the oceans contained about eight million metric tons of plastic. Now we add that much every year. Today there are about 75 million metric tons of plastic in the marine environment, and in five years we can expect 150 million metric tons.

Of all the solutions discussed by Rowan, it's really strange that crowdsourcing waste, hazard & pollution data is not at the top of the list.

But as a CleanApper, YOU know that crowdsourcing waste data isn't just the fastest way to get better data; it's the most secure way of getting this data -- & keeping this data free from manipulation by industry lobbies.

Please share this petition with your friends and loved ones. This is the only way we'll clean up the planet.

Sincerely,

CleanApp
