Wandsworth Council: Keep the Wandsworth One O'Clock Clubs Open

The Issue

Wandsworth Council is considering closing some of the fantastic One O'Clock Centres throughout the borough, to meet it's obligation to provide 15 hours free childcare to disadvantaged 2 year olds from April of this year.

This quote is taken from the minutes of a recent committe meeting about the issue:

"Councillor Mrs Tracey indicated that the Council would be looking at
the possible closure of some One O’Clock Centres, which were becoming
increasingly difficult to justify as a priority in the current financial climate and which could potentially be used to provide places for two-year olds."

Centres believed to be at risk are Bolingbroke, Battersea Park, Windmill and Coronation Gardens One O'Clock Clubs. Faylands and York Gardens One O'Clock Clubs are likely to become Children's Centres.

I'm all for helping under privileged 2 year olds, but this shouldn't happen at the expense of the One O'Clock Clubs. They're a vital resource for ALL local parents, especially new parents and those with under 2s, and provide a key link to the other family services on offer in the borough.
