Dear fellow Malaysians,

Clearly this new mandatory salary reduction scheme is a big slap for all good paymasters who have been paying their PTPTN loan consistently and promptly. For me personally, my repayment loan was RM400 monthly. With this new implementation I would need to pay RM1200 monthly. That's a HUGE 3-fold increase. Why would the government burdened the M40 in such a way, most middle income earners also come from humble beginnings and have other loans to pay and families to feed.

It is totally unfair to sideline us in this manner and especially THOSE WHO PAY PROMPTLY. It is as though the B40 couldn't manage to pay their loan and we M40 have become the sacrificial lamb to fill in the huge loan debts because our salaries are higher.

Also, have the goverment not thought it out before implementing this policy as quoted by Liew Shiyun in her FB comment:

"Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)

Have you guys even consider the consequences of the mandatory PTPTN deduction for those who have been paying consistently as per the agreement?

In essence, this action is outright regressive and inconsiderate to the borrowers who have been following their agreed payment schedule and paid on time - mind you again, based on the loan agreement executed earlier by both parties.

Everyone has their respective debt service commitments from many other financial institutions and NOT just from PTPTN. When you implement this, the borrowers will not be able to service their other loans and will turn default eventually as the banks have earlier calculated the appropriate DSR (debt service ratio) and gave out loans too to the borrowers based on their maximum allowable capability. Now that you forcefully take away their money. How do you think they will be able to service their existing commitments and living expenses?

Put it in short, why are the good paymasters being penalised now?!

It’s only reasonable when you mandatorily deduct what was previously agreed on the loan agreement signed. Otherwise, this will severely mess up the people’s finances.

I urge PTPTN and Pakatan Harapan to revise your new repayment scheme. You are breaking our trust in supporting this new government. We have NEVER hope for you to abolish our PTPTN loan but be a man of your word.  We signed a loan agreement to pay a fixed amount monthly for fixed number of years, kindly stick to that figure. And not forcefully deducting 10-15% of our salaries which is cruel and uncalled for.

Sincerely from,

All broken-hearted and angry Malaysians.
