Don't Stop Us Feeding The Homeless!

Christian Kitchen have served a cooked meal from the Mission Grove car park in Waltham Forest (WF) for over 20 years. Its beauty is its simplicity – a meal is cooked at an off-site location, transported to the car park and served to whoever needs a hot meal. The van goes out with a team of 3 or 4 volunteers every night of the year, serving from 7.30pm until 8.30pm. Around 50 people will be fed each night.

In 2013 WF borough council, with Police support, gave notice that CK would have to leave the car park because it believed that the existence of this provision of food was sustaining and encouraging a street lifestyle which contributed significantly to Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in the High Street area of Walthamstow, E17. Subsequently CK robustly denied it was a contributor to this problem and with much local support is currently pursuing legal action to defend its right to continue its work unhindered.

The outcome of this ongoing dispute with Waltham Forest Council is a final hearing in The High Court on Wednesday 26th Feb 2014, at that hearing the judge will rule on CK's application for Judicial Review.

We are asking for as much support as possible during this time, we would like to continue to help the less fortunate poeple of our borough along with support from the council. If we don't help these people, they will stand very little chance.
