Finally we have been given the green light to announce that Steve Gibbons is to get his well deserved star on the famous Broad Street Walk of Stars.
The nomination was carefully considered by the Walk of Stars committee, chaired by Birmingham comedian Jasper Carrott after the petition was handed to Mike Olley of Westside BID a year ago.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Maureen Cornish, will make the presentation at the Birmingham Rocks event, which opens at Velvet Music Rooms on Broad Street at 5pm on Sunday 6 November.
The presentation will be followed by a live performance of Steve Gibbons on stage, accompanied by the Steve Gibbons Band of Johnny Caswell on guitar, Simon Smith on bass guitar and Howard Smith on drums.
Speaking ahead of the presentation, Steve Gibbons said: “I’m surprised but thrilled to be receiving one of the ‘Stars’ on Broad Street!”
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside Business Improvement District, which organises the ‘Walk of Stars’, said: “Steve Gibbons truly deserves this recognition and we are proud to be making him the 48th ‘Star’ on our Broad Street Walk of Stars.
Jim Simpson, Birmingham’s top music impresario who is organising the ‘Star’ presentation event at Velvet Music Rooms from 5pm this Sunday 6 November, said: “The media response is fantastic and could well mean queues down Broad Street this Sunday.”
Local legend Jim the Hat spearheaded the campaign and would not give up in his quest to get Steve his well deserved star and rightful place on the walk of fame.
We would like to thank every one of you for your support in making this happen.
Best wishes
Izzy, Radley & Jim the Hat
