South Shore is a strong viable community that shows great promise. This community is full of residents from different socioeconomic backgrounds who are all in agreeance that feeling safe is a priority and patronizing the resources available to them in their community is just as important. Nevertheless, it is difficult to feel safe when you have to walk past people engaging in meaningless, offensive, unethical and sometimes dangerous loitering while you’re simply going to pick up a prescription, obtain a money order or inquiring about your cell phone plan.

       We are referring to the senseless behavior that one may witness or be a victim of when patronizing any of the businesses at the corners of 71st and 72nd place on Jeffrey Boulevard. The stores who allow loitering are Walgreens, Metro PCS , Liberty Tax, Jeffery Nails, Check Cashers, and the convenience cell phone store which is currently nameless. Leo Pocious of P & P Mangement owns the mixed-use building on 7100 S. Jeffrey. This owner allows irrepressible loitering that is intimidating and repulsive!

      We want these businesses as well as the alderwoman of the 5th Ward (Leslie Hairston) and Police Captain of the 3rd District to invoke change in these practices! We are not looking for people in the community to be arrested or harassed by the police! However, we are looking for a reduction in the loitering! The people who have signed this petition agree with this initiative and have been affected by this nonsense!
