I’m horrified and heartbroken by the mass shooting in downtown Austin this weekend. Now, a third victim has died and more than a dozen people are injured. My prayers are with those still recovering.

I’m incredibly thankful to the police, EMS, nurses, and doctors who saved lives. I’m in touch with local and federal law enforcement about their investigation, including potential ideological motives or links to terrorism. I encourage anyone with relevant information to contact Austin Police.

A future without gun violence is not just possible — it’s necessary. Americans should be able to have a fun night out without it turning into an unspeakable nightmare. I’ll continue my work on these issues in Congress.
