A Message from Councilman John Tex Williams of District 4 City of Barstow
To the Residents of Barstow, update on Barstow Cemetery.
Some say government doesn’t care. Others feel their voices go unheard. But on Tuesday night, during our City Council meeting, your voices rang loud and clear and we listened.
Every member of this Council cares deeply. Many of us have loved ones resting at Mt View Cemetery, and we carry that responsibility with reverence. This isn’t just policy it’s personal.
So what are we doing?
Last night, I met with representatives from Supervisor Dawn Rowe, Paul Cook’s and Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh California State Senator, representing the 19th to discuss funding and long-term solutions. Our great Senator is making visit to our cemetery in person to see the issues. Why, that answer is she cares.
Our City Manager is preparing to bring forward an in-kind services proposal to council that could save hundreds of thousands of dollars while accelerating progress. Our Mayor is actively working to secure additional funding to support this project. This is what new leadership looks like thinking outside the box, putting residents first, and restoring dignity to our city.
In just over seven months, Barstow has made a 180-degree turn. We still have work to do, but the power of government is shifting back to where it belongs: with you.
To our Public Works staff and mangment let me be absolutely clear: you are the heroes of this transformation. I see the long hours, the understaffed crews, the quiet sacrifices. While politicians often get the credit, it’s your hands that build, repair, and restore. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I appreciate you. And I will continue to fight for the resources and respect you deserve.
To our first responders thank you as you are also understand paid and understaffed while your comittement to public safety is your number one goal.
Barstow is rising not because of speeches or titles, but because of people like you. Let’s keep moving forward, together.
