Virginia Tech Must Fire Anti-Free-Speech Professors!
The Issue
In response to "A Letter on Justice and Open Debate", a defense of free speech and call for intellectual tolerance published by Harper's Magazine, Virginia Tech's Department of Religion and Culture Chair, Matt Gabrielle declared himself in opposition. He stated that one should think "long and hard" about putting one's name next to others on the list. A person who's morals depend on being backed up by the "intellectually fashionable" is not fit to lead any department, let alone in an area of study replete with examples of the dangers of weakly-principled individuals uniting in anti-intellectual mobs.
